Hellfire & Damnation started out as a running joke in the Urban family. Chelsea and Natalia Urban were commonly referred to as 'damnation' and 'hellfire' as children by their parents, Jessénia and Richard. Around the age of eleven, Natalia commented to her father that she was going to start a band, and he joking stated, "Great, just what the world needs: Hellfire and Damnation!" It was then that Natalia decided that would be their band name. In Year 60 Jessénia officially signed her daughters to Síren Call Records.

During the later parts of Year 60, the girls met Lana Carey and Astrid Kilcline. Chelsea 'discovered' Astrid singing in the park one day, and simply asked her if she wanted to be involved with a band. After evaluating their sound, it was decided that they needed a bass player. Natalia was introduced to Lana Carey through their mutual friend Iván Santiago. Lana jumped in on bass, while Astrid took on the challenging role of singer-songwriter.
